The American Red Cross Streamlines Blood Data

August 19, 2003

Ensuring that the blood supply is safe, secure and available for more than 3,000 U.S. hospitals and victims of wars and natural disasters is the challenging work of the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org), Washington, D.C. To disseminate accurate information so that victims receive the right blood products as quickly as possible, the organization will begin using content management software from Arbortext (www.arbortext.com), Ann Arbor, MI. The software will be used to create and publish biomedical service documents and the standard operating procedures, policies and other content that guides the blood manufacturing and distribution process.

Led by 1.2 million volunteers and 36,000 employees, the Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to families affected by more than 67,000 disasters, trains nearly 12 million people in lifesaving skills and exchanges more than a million emergency messages for U.S. military service personnel and their families.
