XML/PDF Designer Adds E-Form Possibilities
August 12, 2003
Adobe Systems (www.adobe.com), San Jose, CA, has announced XML/PDF forms design software for creating "intelligent" electronic documents. Leveraging PDF features for presenting information and XML for processing data, the form design software will enable organizations to design and deploy forms in PDF format or as an XML Data Package.
The new XML/PDF form designer software builds on Adobe's XML architecture, which supports end-to-end document processes. It lets users define business logic and incorporate existing or user-defined XML schemas, supporting XML vocabularies specific to particular verticals or cross-industry standards. Forms can be deployed and processed as PDFs or delivered as an XML Data Package to be processed as XML.
The XML/PDF designer could be used for internal forms such as purchase orders and expense reports, or external forms such as applications or RFPs that reach customers and partners. The designer combined with Adobe Form Server, Adobe Workflow Server, Adobe Document Server and the free Adobe Reader, are intended to let organizations integrate enterprise applications with document workflows.
Adobe says the form designer will be available for beta testing during the fourth quarter of 2003.
