Upgrades Enhance Document Imaging System
February 18, 2003
With its 5.5 release of ViewWise, Computhink, Lombard, IL
(www.computhink.com), has enhanced
the capabilities of a document management system designed for small- to mid-sized businesses.
The new AdminWise module is said to improve the administrator's control of document, system
and support utilities. Features include support for backup and restore, audit trails, recycle
bin override, user monitoring and the ability to override or reset redaction passwords.
Also new in ViewWise is Stellent's Outside In technology, which lets users view documents in
225 native file formats, including Microsoft Word and Excel, without the native application
being present.
Support has also been added for DjVu, an image file format that can compress files to
one-tenth the size of conventional compression formats. The format lets users digitally
capture, save, email and export large, high-resolution documents without encountering
bandwidth and file transfer issues.
New ViewWise Office functionality for Microsoft Office applications (2000/XP) lets users
save a file in its native file format straight to ViewWise by selecting the ViewWise Icon
visible on the office application tool bar. For example, Outlook users can select and save
single or multiple emails along with any attached files. The email is saved in HTML format
and the attached file(s) are added as additional pages that retain their original file
format.
