The Show-me State Launches an e-Gov Portal
The Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) in Jefferson City, MO, has installed the Enterprise
Content Management platform from FileNet, Costa Mesa, CA,
www.filenet.com, to power the agency's new
Web portal.
The FileNet solution replaced an existing system that could no longer keep up with the agency's
heavy workload. The agency was managing more than nine million legacy documents and capturing
approximately one million new documents annually. The MPSC staff needed to process increasing
workloads without additional personnel. FileNet's software, which went live in April, is said to
have automated the content management environment and eliminated many manual processes, thereby
increasing productivity.
Instead of walking to and from filing cabinets all day, MPSC staff now retrieve and archive
information from their desks with browser-based access to a customized Web portal and a central
FileNet content repository. The system has reduced the time it takes to respond to inquiries from
utility companies and consumers from weeks or months to a day or less.
The MPSC regularly processes confidential legal information, so the system secures the Web portal
behind a firewall and uses VeriSign digital certificates to validate and secure online transactions
with utilities and other external parties.
