University of Pisa Leans on Convera
The communications department at the University of Pisa, one of Italy's oldest universities,
recently deployed RetrievalWare search software from Convera, Vienna, VA,
www.convera.com, on its
new portal. The search software has already helped the university lower cost and improve efficiency.
Built by international integrator Infosquare.com, the portal provides the university's faculty and
40,000 students with access to a database of more than 7,000 multilingual archived documents,
including class and exam schedules, university policies, job vacancies and research reports.
According to the university, ensuring student and staff access to up-to-date information had become
a challenge as the student body grew and new buildings were erected. Since the search software was
installed, the number of inquiries coming into the university's communications department has been
reduced, freeing staff to focus on other tasks.
The next step for the University of Pisa's portal is to include English language content and to
provide full access to the public over the Internet.
