Canadian Cancer Society Builds a Better Web Resource
In an effort to make its Web site the number-one Canadian source of information and resources about
cancer and local cancer support services, the Canadian Cancer Society, Toronto, has decided to
rebuild www.cancer.ca using V6 Web content management software from Vignette, Austin, TX,
(www.vignette.com). The new site was
scheduled to go live in mid-November.
In addition to making the site more complete and presenting content from outside sources such as
Health Canada, the Vignette software will be used by the society to consolidate 10 regional Web
sites into one. The new site will also allow thousands of volunteers and 250 nontechnical employees
to contribute content using familiar tools such as Microsoft Word.
V6 is being deployed in a combined Microsoft/IBM environment; the Canadian Cancer Society uses
Microsoft Windows 2000, SQL Server and Internet Information Server along with IBM WebSphere
application server. Future plans include the development of an intranet for staff and volunteers.
