Application Sharing Meets Microsoft Files and Apps

Network-based file sharing is the idea behind the Presence-AR Adapter for Excel 1.3 from Houston, TX-based Advanced Reality (www.advancedreality.com). Presence-AR is a Java applet that lets users share files across a network. When one user starts up Presence-AR in conjunction with a supported application, other users on the network can access the same file in real-time from within their own desktop applications. Presence-AR for Excel extends this functionality to users of Microsoft Sharepoint Portal server and the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application.

Presence-AR for Excel also adds two contextual collaboration features to Microsoft Excel. Chat lets users initiate an instant messaging session from with Microsoft Excel, allowing them to discuss, in real time, data within a spreadsheet. The Find/Follow function lets one user locate the cursor of another user working on a spreadsheet file. Once located, the first user can follow the activities of the second user in real time.
