Oxford University Press Puts the 'Search' in Research

Users of the online reference project at Oxford University Press need fast, accurate answers. To help make this possible, the Oxford, U.K.-based institution has selected RetrievalWare knowledge management software from Convera (www.convera.com), Vienna, VA.

When designing its new site, www.oxfordreference.com, Oxford University Press stressed that searching had to be effective across a wide range of topics. The new site will offer multiple search approaches: Quick Search will match any term from the database; Advanced Search will let users refine searches to focus on one, or any combination of subject; and Pattern Search will interpret misspelled words and variations in spelling.

RetrievalWare's technology will also make accessible more than 1.5 million facts and figures from approximately 100 Oxford reference books.
