Blue Cross Brings Docs to the Web
Seeking a way to integrate 20,000 legacy documents with a revamped "BlueWeb" intranet site, the Blue
Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) in Chicago, has selected an enterprise content management
system from Interwoven (www.interwoven.com), Sunnyvale, CA.
Interwoven says its software will allow BCBSA employees to manage all enterprise assets, including
Microsoft Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, PDF documents, streaming
media, Flash content, images and HTML pages.
"Our goal was to make BlueWeb the primary communication tool for all employees across the Blue Cross
and Blue Shield System," stated Rich Lange, managing director, BCBSA Internet Communications.
BCBSA is an association of 43 independent, locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans that
collectively provide health care coverage to approximately 82 million members. The intranet provides
information to BCBSA's more than 150,000 employees.
Interwoven reports that 10 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans have purchased the company's enterprise
content management solution, including Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Empire Blue Cross and
Blue Shield, Blue Cross of California, Trigon Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and Regence Blue Cross and
Blue Shield. BCBSA used IBM's WebSphere for its application server.
