Dow Jones Automates 'Journal' Subscription

Dow Jones & Co., publisher of the Wall Street Journal, faces a monumental subscription management task. To handle the more than 8,000 order forms and subscription cards the company receives each day, the New York-based publisher has selected Task Master 5.0 capture technology from Datacap (www.datacap.com), Tarrytown, NY.

Dow Jones will use Task Master 5.0 to automate the scanning and capture of data from subscription order forms. Dow Jones already scans these documents, but operators enter data manually, which slows turnaround to approximately two days. When the Datacap system goes in to full production in late summer 2002, Dow Jones expects to shave processing time by more than half.

Dow Jones uses approximately 50 different order forms of varying shapes, sizes and layouts. Task Master 5.0's capture workflow relies on ICR/OCR recognition technology to extract data from images automatically and submit low-confidence results to manual correction work queues.
