A New Model for Automotive Content
Aiming to streamline and coordinate the release of product information, Toyota PLC, the British unit
of one of the world's largest automakers, has launched an enterprisewide retail asset management
system based on the enterprise content management (ECM) platform from Documentum
(www.documentum.com), Pleasanton, CA.
Using Documentum, Toyota now provides up-to-date product information to its customers, employees and
220 dealers throughout the United Kingdom. The carmaker needed a system that could integrate
disparate content and deliver it in an easily accessible, yet secure way. It now has a central Web
accessible repository of business-critical content including model data, vehicle images, inventory
information, available accessories and dealership data.
By eliminating duplicate data and the need for manual updates, Toyota PLC says it has increased
efficiency and time-to-market. When new vehicles are launched, Toyota makes information instantly
available on its Web site while simultaneously issuing confidential pricing and other valuable data
to its dealers.
