See All That You Can See
Proving that even the most disciplined organizations can always be
made more efficient, several departments within the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point, NY, are utilizing RetrievalWare from Convera
(www.convera.com),
Vienna, VA, to improve access to information.
West Point's Office of the Dean and Office of the Staff Judge
Advocate are using RetrievalWare to speed searching across multiple
repositories. Four years ago, the Judge Advocate's office began scanning
and converting its paper-based catalog of case information into
electronic format. These Word documents and PDF files are then stored in
one of several repositories depending on their sensitivity.
Using RetrievalWare, authorized personnel can perform a simultaneous
search of nearly 300,000 images regardless of where they are stored.
RetrievalWare's cross-repository and document-level security features
conform with existing access rights to ensure that search results will
contain only those items that each searcher is permitted to view.
The Office of the Dean is converting the academic transcripts for all
cadets since 1943. By converting these transcripts into PDF images, the
Office of the Registrar will be able to use RetrievalWare to find and
verify information about cadets in a matter of seconds.
