British Red Cross Puts Content Online

The British Red Cross, headquartered in London, has selected a content management system from Stellent (www.stellent.com), Eden Prairie, MN, to manage internal information.

With 4,500 U.K. employees and more than 50,000 volunteers, it is essential for the organization's information to be broadly accessible, easily updated and published.

"We currently operate four intranets for departments such as human resources and finance, [and they have been] time consuming and expensive to update," stated Miguel Fiallos, MIS manager for finance at the Red Cross. "With one central intranet, it will be much simpler to access internal information, and the staff will be able to easily update the site themselves."

When content is checked into Stellent's Content Server, the system will enable content contributors to tag and index documents, which will allow fellow intranet users to search and retrieve documents. The vendor's PDF Converter software will automatically convert native files, such as Word and Excel, into PDF format — the agency's preferred format.
