Conglomerate Unites Holdings Online
Ingersoll-Rand, a Woodcliff Lake, NJ-based holding company, is using content management software
from London- and New York-based Mediasurface
(www.mediasurface.com) to unite
a score of companies
through its intranet.
Ingersoll-Rand implemented the intranet and eponymous Mediasurface system to distribute human
resources and training information, executive briefings and company news to more than 50,000
employees in 20 business units and operating in 20 countries.
"Each of our 20 business units works autonomously, so the companywide intranet helped create a
feeling of unity for our employees around the world," stated Herbert Henkel, chairman, president and
CEO at Ingersoll-Rand.
The Mediasurface software was integrated with Autonomy Fetch, a search application from San
Francisco-based Autonomy (www.autonomy.com).
The first phase of the implementation was reportedly
completed in fewer than 45 days. With the content management system in place, Ingersoll-Rand expects
to significantly expand the amount of information online.
