Version 5.4 of Athena from Chicago-based Divine (www.divine.com) is said to offer enhanced collaboration and an improved interface. Athena offers users federated search throughout an enterprise and then delivers the data either in its native format or a browser-compatible conversion. The improved Web-based interface supports all Athena activities, including management and administration as well as access. This eliminates the need for platform-specific administration clients. It also paves the way for Athena to be integrated into Web portals.

Athena 5.4's "passive knowledge management" collaboration tool monitors and categorizes the searches within an organization. Then when a new search is initiated, users are informed of previous searches made on the same keyword. This approach stimulates collaboration by bringing together users who are using the same content.
