Microsoft SharePoint Powers Portal-Based Document Management
Elite Information Systems (www.eliteis.com)
has announced a portal-based document management
system built on Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server
(www.microsoft.com/sharepoint).
According to
the Los Angeles-based company, Elite Encompass is the first document management system built to run
on top of the Microsoft portal and collaboration server software.
Elite Encompass adds support for extranets, folder storage policies, off-line content use and
application integration to SharePoint's existing document management features. Encompass is said to
streamline the creation and modification of documents and subsequent access, organization and data
sharing from internal and external sources. Integrating document management into a Web portal
simplifies the user experience and lets users work more efficiently by providing access to all
enterprise content through a single online interface.
Encompass also integrates with Microsoft Office and WordPerfect Office, giving users document
management features at the application level. Full-text search works on HTML, PDF and TIFF image
files and on Exchange 5.5 and 2000 public folders. Documents can be automatically categorized with
metadata from external data sources, eliminating the need to manually replicate metadata.
Elite Encompass was set to finish beta testing in January and will be priced at $295 per seat.
