Self-Service Comes To Chicago

The City of Chicago, the third largest city in the United States, with more than 40,000 employees and an annual budget of $4 billion, has selected a suite of enterprise self-service applications from BroadVision, Redwood City, CA, to power a variety of e-government initiatives.

Chicago's first initiative is an online bill payment system that will allow citizens and businesses to pay a variety of fees, starting with water bills and eventually extending to tax payments and a wide variety of permit and license fees.

The city will use BroadVision InfoExchange Portal to power an enhanced site providing citizens with online access to information and services from the city's 42 administrative departments as well as sister agencies including the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Transit Authority. BroadVision One-to-One Publishing's distributed content management will be used to create and maintain up-to-date content for the portal.

Future plans call for BroadVision's content management and personalization capabilities to be used in a site that allows citizens and businesses to easily apply for and obtain city permits online.
