PRODUCT BRIEF

Unix-Based Portal

Portal software vendor Plumtree (www.plumtree.com), San Francisco, in June introduced Plumtree Corporate Portal 4.0 for Sun Solaris, the first version of the company's flagship software running entirely on Unix. The software provides the same features deployed in Windows NT/2000, including a document directory for indexing and categorizing, a massively parallel portal engine for assembling Web services, a library of enterprise class Gadget modules for integrating applications, a collaboration and communities framework, and extensive security and administration tools.

Plumtree asserts that its Corporate Portal software is the only software of its kind that supports both Java and COM programming interfaces, making it "the most open, cross-platform portal application in the industry."

The 4.0 release for Sun Solaris features a Java presentation layer written in J2EE-compliant Java Server Pages. This presentation layer can run on either a Java servlet engine or an application server such as BEA or WebLogic or IBM WebSphere.
