Recovering After Installing a Service Pack

By all accounts, NT Service Pack 4 was bug ridden and created problems for system administrators who installed it. However, you could uninstall it if you took a couple of precautions first, such as creating an emergency repair disk before installing SP4 or checking yes when SP4’s installer asked if you wanted to create an uninstall application.

Keep this in mind when installing the new Service Pack 5. First install the service pack on a non-critical computer and use that computer to check for software compatibility. When you do install SP5 on a critical machine, make sure you have a way to back out, either by making a disk image or by making sure that SP5 will be uninstallable.
